Anne Bean and Paul Burwell continued to work together, in the last years mostly at Kingston Rowing Club, until the end of Paul’s life in 2007. The last public performance that they did together was in 2006 at Spurn Point, called Homecoming as part of Anne Bean’s exhibition Autobituary. Paul drummed in the estuary as the tide came in changing the tone of his drums, as the sea came up towards him, whilst the perspex containers of sea salt and beach sand that Anne had placed at the high tide mark, open on one side towards the sea, released their contents back to the sea and beach. It brought the cycle full circle from when they had met at the time when he had recently drummed in the sea at Newhaven in 1976.
